Pa’lante Desert Pack with pad + sleeve - featuring a removable foam back pad and an integrated UHMWPE grid mesh sleeve. This version is ideal for everyday use, travel, and commuting, as well as for thru-hikers who appreciate a bit more organization and structure in their pack.
This pack utilizes high-quality, innovative materials like 210D UHMWPE Gridstop or 400D UltraWeave™ material from Challenge Sailcloth. It has been thoughtfully designed and crafted to withstand the harsh conditions of the desert and other challenging abrasive terrains (think rocky mountain terrain, bushwacking). Despite its lightweight nature, it maintains exceptional strength, allowing hikers to comfortably carry their gear over long distances, even when carrying water and food supplies for several days.
Compared to the V2 pack, the Desert Pack is specifically designed for treks that require heavier loads with limited resupply opportunities. It offers slightly more internal volume than the V2 pack. The flexible roll-top closure system and side compression straps allow the Desert Pack to adapt to shorter trips or diminishing food supplies. It features larger-than-normal cinchable side pockets on both sides, each pocket accommodating two 1-liter bottles. Additionally, a stashable hip belt provides relief for the shoulders during out-of-town moments. A unique feature of this pack is the designated stake pocket incorporated within the main outer stretch pocket.
Additional carrying options include a stretchy bottom pocket for daily snacks and trash, as well as stretchy and cinchable shoulder pockets that can hold bottles, a phone, or snacks. The pack also offers various external attachment points, including a stashable ice axe carrying loop. A hydration port allows the water bladder tube to be routed out of the pack. The chest straps can be vertically adjusted using ladder lock buckles. The presence of an aluminum g-hook for the top adjustable webbing further emphasizes the pack's overall durability and suitability for rugged terrains.
Sleeve version with foam pad: this version of the pack has a removable 1/8” foam pad + sleeve option. We leave the pad in for everyday use, day hiking, or traveling. While backpacking or thru hiking it is nice to remove the pad and stuff a folded inflatable sleeping pad into the pouch, which makes the inside of the pack feel more organized and adds some rigidity when compared to the pad just floating there. There is also a uhmwpe grid mesh pocket on the sleeve for laptop or bladder use, with a couple pockets within the mesh for keys and small things. Up top is a toggle with a cutout so you can hang a bladder inside or outside the pad sleeve.
